Miles Snowden joined UnitedHealth Group and Uniprise in July of 2004. As Executive Vice President, Clinical Strategy, he is responsible for leveraging his experience as a broad based human resources executive, clinician, and health strategist to interpret medical trend drivers and deliver impactful care delivery solutions for the largest employers served by UnitedHealth Group. He closely coordinates this work with OptumHealth, as well as United Healthcare teams in Clinical Advancement and UnitedHealth Networks. Snowden was formerly Director - Benefits Strategy & Health Services at Delta Air Lines. He was responsible for strategic direction of all employee benefits at the airline and led a highly visible corporate initiative targeted at rapid, substantive employee benefit expense reduction. In the 18 months following September 11, 2001, this project reduced corporate employee benefit expense by more than 30% with broad ranging changes to healthcare, pension, and illness benefits. He successfully introduced innovative benefit design and care management solutions to help maintain healthcare affordability for Delta employees. In the course of delivering these rapid changes, he also produced award-winning work in the area of web-based employee benefit communication and engagement. As the senior medical leader for the airline, Snowden was also responsible for all health-related matters affecting Delta people, passengers, and policies. He was responsible for the health related costs of a global business with 60,000 employees, and managed the healthcare benefits for more than 180,000 employees, retirees, and dependents. Responsibilities included workers compensation programs, disability plans, an employee assistance program, a national occupational health clinic system, and all passenger health issues. Snowden joined Delta Air Lines in 1999 following 14 years of work in Louisville, Kentucky where he was founder and medical director of an occupational health consulting practice. He is a physician, board certified by both the American Boards of Internal Medicine and Preventive Medicine, and a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist. As one of only a few physicians who have been directly responsible for employee benefits strategy, administration, and delivery, he has frequently addressed national forums from his unique perspective.
