Our overall goal is to partner with employers for optimal
performance by using our insights and innovation to engage consumers in
their health care no matter where they fall on the health care continuum
– staying healthy, getting healthy, or living with illness – to ultimately
drive a healthier workforce and lower health care costs.
To support a healthier work force, our wellness programs are integrated
with our clinical programs and are designed to:
- Create awareness of the long-term benefits of a healthy lifestyle
- Educate on ways to improve health
- Support behavior change with coaching and other tools
- Encourage and reward healthy behaviors
Many health
conditions are preventable and/or actionable including an inactive or
sedentary lifestyle, obesity, depression, smoking, stress and other lifestyle
issues. The key to addressing the future health of employees and understanding
the risk and impact within an organization is knowledge, awareness, proactive
communications and support tools. We provide on-line and telephonic coaching,
personalized messaging, incentives, a personal health record, health assessments
and a comprehensive, interactive Web site - myuhc.com®. The Web site is
an integration of health education, activation and behavior change tools
that help consumers achieve and maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
This program also gives employers the ability to understand the health
status of their employee population, the ability to see trends and provide
behavioral change programs if necessary. These measures will effect lifestyle
improvement with measured results and outcomes and drive proactive health
consciousness resulting in reduced medical costs for the employee and
employer.
Healthy Back Program
The Healthy Back Program targets members with low back pain,
the largest musculoskeletal health care cost category. It can help deliver
substantial savings by improving self-care and care-seeking patterns
for individuals with recurring and chronic back conditions. It is a
single source for employees to obtain back-related information, support,
and guidance in navigating the health care system while improving access
to high-quality care and reducing out-of-pocket expenses. This program
reduces the overuse, inappropriate and unnecessary use of medical services
and high-cost pain medications, takes lifestyle risk factors and psychosocial
issues into consideration and provides quality-and-efficiency designated
UnitedHealth Premium® back specialists for consistent treatment,
clinical pathways and overall outcomes.
Healthy Pregnancy Program
Our Healthy Pregnancy Program provides personalized support through each
stage of pregnancy and delivery. Those enrolled in the program will
receive information on how to identify pregnancy risk factors and be
will interviewed by nurses to identify any special needs. Participants
of this program will also have access to our 24-hour toll-free number
to reach experienced nurses with any questions or concerns. Experienced
nurses also provide after delivery follow-up and the patient has continued
access to the nurses for support.
Health Rewards - Clinical Incentive Solutions
Health Rewards is a modular program for employers to use incentive strategies
to improve employee participation in, and completion of, various wellness
and clinical programs that ultimately lead to adoption of desired healthy
behaviors as a way of life. We redesigned and expanded the current Coaching
Rewards program to re-configure our current Health Rewards program packages
for a more intuitive approach to incentive strategies.
Employers can reward specific behaviors within each stage of the health
care continuum - Staying Healthy, Getting Healthy or Living with Illness
programs and services. Customers can select the right rewards for their
population’s specific health needs. This provides a more flexible approach
to incentive behavior management and provides a wider array of services
to reward.

education solutions and a support network, based on the individual’s
specific needs. Our non-surgical approach provides general and weight

tools and trackers, customized fitness plans and an online health coach.
Our weight program was designed with leaders within the weight loss
field to focus on a reduction in weight of at least 5 to 10%. Even modest
weight loss can help reduce medical and pharmacy costs, help avoid bariatric
surgery, and co-morbidities such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.

technology with real-time data to support earlier identification of the
top percent of individuals at-risk for health or behavioral issues that
could possibly lead to disability.
